Label Printer

What is a label printer?

A label printer is a small, hand held printer that is often portable in nature. Unlike other, larger printers, a label printer's sole job is to print out labels on a white, often shiny (but sometimes matte) label that has an adhesive back, which allows the label to be placed on any solid or even not so solid surface. Label printers can come as cheap as twenty or thirty dollars, or run as high as several hundred dollars. The features a label printer has and how quickly it can generate a label are both strong indicators of the price that a particular label printer will have.

Putting a label printer to use

Many employers put label printers to use in their office, organizing their filing cabinets, labeling compartments, boxes and baskets, and even re-using the same name tag templates over and over. But a label printer can be used in the home as well! Many mothers will find a label maker to be a great tool with keeping cabinets and drawers organized. Storage bins can have their contents quickly identified if labeled. Drawers and boxes can be notated and designated for a certain person or part of the home if labeled. A label printer may also be a great tool for moves. Rather than deal with permanent markers that don't always perform, and a cramped hand, use a label printer to label all of the moving boxes!

Where can I purchase a label printer?

You'll find that a label printer is an incredibly easy purchase to make. Most large retailers carry label printers, as do office supply stores, craft stores, and even some grocery stores and hardware stores. Because label printers have multiple uses, you'll find them in multiple types of stores! Also, label makers are available for purchase online, and with many auction websites, and with manufacturer websites.
The price of a label printer, as mentioned above, largely depends on the features it carries. If you are looking for a basic label printer, then expect to spend no more than twenty or thirty dollars. But if you want more features and abilities, then expect to spend more.

Caring for a label printer

Always read all instruction manuals that are included with your label printer. Store your label printer upright, on a solid surface, in a cool, dry location. Since your label printer is an electronic, keep it away from high humidity and liquids. You can use a q-tip dipped in distilled water to gently clear away any ink clogs from cartridges, and to sweep away any excess paper that may have built up around the paper tray area.
