Uses for a label maker

The label maker is a perfect solution for anything that needs labeling! While it is true that many inkjet and laser printers are capable of producing labels, those labels are only of average quality, because you are using a printer designed for paper printing to imprint text or images onto special adhesive labels. While the process works, it is better to use an authentic label maker if you are going to be doing a lot of labeling, or if you just want the job to look professional from the get-go.
You can use a label maker to generate labels for anything under the sun. Employers often keep a label maker on hand to print out names to apply on reusable employee name tags. Label jars, spices and condiments in your home with a handy label maker. Skip permanent markers and tabs and use printed labels to organize your filing cabinet. If you have something that needs labeling, then you'll need a label maker!

Using a label maker

With a label maker, there is no mess and fuss to going from turning on the label maker to having your label in hand. With most models, all you need to do is turn on the label maker, use the integrated keyboard to type out your desired label, double check for proper spelling, punctuation and capitalization, and then hit print! Most label makers feature a serrated edge or other cutting tool, so your label will be just the right size -- no larger than the text printed on it, and definitely no smaller!

Purchasing a label maker

Once you're ready for a label maker, you'll need to decide where you'd like to purchase one from! Most discount retailers like Target and Wal-mart will carry a few types of label markers. You can find them in the stationery aisle, or in Wal-mart's case, with the crafts. But if you check out a craft store, or better yet, an office supply store, you're guaranteed to find an abundance of label makers with a variety of features, options and prices.

Supplies for a label maker

Label makers come ready to go, either with a power cord and/or batteries, but you'll definitely want to purchase extra paper (referred to as a label cartridge), and extra ink, if the label maker allows for ink changes (some do). You can find these label maker supplies alongside the label makers themselves. Chances are it will be a long while before you run out of ink, but running out of labels is a real possibility, so I suggest that you stock up on them!
